Look for Reasons to Be Happy

If you’ve followed my blogs for awhile, you know that one of my dorky traits, is that I like collecting heart-shaped rocks.  They make me smile.

I was out looking for some the other day, right after a rain. I didn’t find any heart-shaped rocks, but I did find two heart-shaped wet spots on rocks, from the light rain.  And that made me smile.

Here’s one of them:
(You can click on it, to make it larger if you can’t see the heart.)

I really believe that we should look for reasons to be happy. Don’t just wait around, hoping happiness will fall from the sky and bump you on the head. Actively look for reasons to be happy.

Today is Valentine’s Day, a holiday that some people love and other people hate. Many say that Valentine’s Day is not a “real” holiday.  Well, who’s to say what is, or is not, a real holiday?

Of course I don’t give Valentine’s Day the sort of importance that I give Christmas or Easter. But I enjoy Valentine’s Day.  It’s fun.

And it can be fun even if you don’t have a romantic partner in your life.  You can share something happy and kind with anyone you love.

I love my husband, my children, my family, my friends and my readers.  I wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Why not?

We could make up a “Happy Sunshine Day” to celebrate happy sunny days, and I’d be cool with that too.

I’m cool with virtually any reason to be happy.

Life is way too stressful.

Enjoy the little stuff.

It doesn’t have to be a big production. It certainly doesn’t have to be commercialized, or expensive.

Just have a little fun.

So with that in mind…

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Days 21, 22, and 23 of the 31 Day Photo Challenge

I forgot to take a photograph on the 20th. I have no good excuse, I simply thought I had taken photos that day when I hadn’t. LOL  Moving on….

December 21st….

Snow!  And the birds are enjoying Grandma’s feeder. There were tons of them on it all day, yet they flew every time I cracked the door to take a photo. All except for this one brave little Chickadee. Well.. he could be brave, or stupid, or overly hungry… who knows.   ;)

December 22nd…

My Ella was crying and clearly wanted me to get her away from her siblings (who were being rather loud and rambunctious at the time) and put her down for a nap. So I took her to my bed and we laid down for a bit.  She tucked me in (that’s our thing now, I tuck her in and then she takes the other side of the blanket and tucks me in), snuggled up to me, looked at me so sweetly, ran her hand down my face, smiled and went to sleep.

I love Ella snuggles!

After resting with her for a bit, I sneaked away. Later I came back to check on her, and got in a photograph while she was still sleeping.   :)

My lips are brutally chapped and I look like I have “emo kid” hair in this photo, but oh well, Ella is cute.   ;)

Just a silly little tree that I made and hung on the wall to surprise the kids, while they were visiting their grandparents today. If I’d had more time I would have made it nicer, but I was in a hurry.  I had lots of secret squirrel things to do today while the kids were away, getting prepared for Christmas.

:)

I may post again before Christmas, but just in case I don’t, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!!

Days 17, 18, and 19 of the 31 Day Photo Challenge

Some new shelf mushrooms popping out on my hollow log planter.

December 18th…

You can’t tell by this photograph, because it is so very far away, but the bird in this photo is a Golden Eagle.
They are a rare sighting in our area. But some have been reported to winter here. I’ve seen it a couple of times now. It is truly massive. It completely dwarfs the Cooper’s Hawks and Red-tailed Hawks that I typically see here. When I saw it sitting on a low branch, it was jaw dropping, I simply didn’t get back with my camera in time. If I see it again, I hope to get a better photograph.

Today Dad gave me my Grandmother’s bird feeder.  I took this photograph right after Dad hung it up for me. We had some trouble getting it open, where it hadn’t been opened in so long. But Dad got it. My husband says that this summer he’ll clean it up more and put a new sealant on it, to help protect it.  It needs a little TLC, but it’s a nice feeder, with a place for seed in the middle and a spot for suet on each end. It makes me happy to look out and see it and know that it was hers.

My smiling Odie.

The 12th was a busy and stressful day, and I totally forgot to take a photo.  Oops!

I already showed you my photo from the 13th, here.

And I got hit by a bad MG flare up on the 14th, and I missed the 14th and 15th.

For December 16th, I decided to photograph “Fuzzy Head”.

IMG_51676x800wC

I think it’s pretty obvious why we call him Fuzzy Head.

Fuzzy Head was born from the wild Mallard ducks that were hanging around here a couple of years ago. He had a very fuzzy head from birth. As he got bigger, the other ducks shunned Fuzzy Head.  I guess they didn’t like him because he looked different. He was often off to the side looking sad, or being chased off to the side alone. We felt bad for him and paid special attention to him.

The interesting thing about Fuzzy Head, is that he got the last laugh.  Fuzzy Head is now the alpha duck of the ducks that hang around here.

And I think it’s fitting, since he wears the crown.   ;)

Days 6, 7 and 8 of the 31 Day Photo Challenge

My photo for December 6th, is the book that my 9-year-old son is staying up late reading at night.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Will is loving this book!

Day 7:

This one is really random. But yesterday I saw this little puddle of water on our kitchen sink and I thought it looked like a bear. I asked the other members of my family and they agreed too. So… I took a picture of it.
Here’s my “water bear”.    :)

Somehow it doesn’t look quite as “bearish” in the photograph as it did in real life.
What can I say, use your imagination a little.
:)

And today, Day 8, the Christmas special I just watched with my kids:

Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special

It is cute.  It’s a short DVD but it’s really cute and a fun watch.
All of us laughed out loud at one point or another.

:)
