The weekly photo challenge announced today on The Daily Post is “Flowers”.
I’m sure this topic will be loaded with beautiful posts. I have so many flower photographs, I admit to having a hard time deciding what to include here for my own post. In the end, I decided to go with a few photographs that I have taken this summer of flowers that are not perhaps your “typical” flowers.
First up, Castle Orange. Taken in my yard August 17th.
~
Next… Spider Plant (Cleome hasslerina). Also taken in my yard, on July 16th.
~
And finally, the blooms on my one of my Venus Flytraps. Taken July 9th.
I have more classically “beautiful” flower photographs, but I thought I’d try to offer you something unique. I hope you enjoyed them!

Nice shots!
Beautiful images, Deb. Really nicely done…
The bottom pic caught my attention… I like it.
Wow, Deb, I’ve never seen a flowering venus flytrap! It’s beautiful. And I’ve never even seen the other two. You must have the greenest thumb in the world!
Lovely!
Spider plant is my fav
I like them all.
Unusual viewing angle – I also hadn’t seen a Venus Fly-Trap in bloom before.
A beautiful post – my favourite is the first image. thank you for sharing.
Thank you for all of the nice comments everyone! One of the reasons many people haven’t seen a flowering venus flytrap before is due to a wide-spread myth that if you let your venus flytrap bloom, the plant will die. And that you should cut off the stalk that shoots up to bloom, so that your plant will continue to live. But it’s not true. I always let mine bloom, and it has never caused the death of a plant. The one in the photo above has flowered many years in a row.
Now I know the name of plants I bought on discount: they are spider plants — and have been blooming beautifully. Your photos are excellent — I love the interesting angles!
